One of the popular PS5 games, Astro Bot, has a serious bug that will erase the player’s saved files. The bug appears to be triggered by crashes that corrupt the saved data, rendering it unrecoverable.
Numerous users on the Astro Bot Subreddit have posted about the issue, with some describing losing significant progress due to crashes. One user claims that their external m.2 SSD was overheating, causing the crashes and subsequent save file corruption.
There doesn’t seem to be a permanent fix yet, but some users have reported temporary workarounds to try to circumvent the issue:
- Disable auto cloud saving and switch to manual cloud saving.
- Play the game for a while.
- Return to the main menu within the game.
- Press the PS button, then select the Astro Bot game icon and press the options button.
- Choose “Upload Download Save” to upload your save to the cloud.
Although this workaround prevents saves from getting corrupted, players still need to remember to upload their saves every few hours. They eagerly await a patch from the game’s developers to fix the bug permanently.
