A lot of players are having trouble getting smooth gameplay in The Forever Winter. Even strong PCs are slowing down. It feels unfair when someone has a good computer, but the game still runs badly.
One example is a player with a strong system (a 3070 Ti and an AM5 CPU) who cannot keep the game running at 40 FPS. Another person with a 2060 and i7 said they barely stay at 60 FPS on the lowest settings. They noticed that textures also take forever to show up.
More players are posting about problems. A user with a 4090 GPU and top CPU mentioned their game won’t go past 60 FPS no matter what settings are used. Changing from 4K Ultra down to 1080p did nothing for them.
Some players even joke that bad performance is what makes the game “hardcore.” Underneath the jokes, though, most want smoother gameplay.
Part of the anger is that the game asks a lot from a computer. The suggested GPU is a 3080 Ti which is very powerful. Yet even people with great computers say the game does not run well. One person mentioned they play Space Marine 2 on ultra settings without problems, but The Forever Winter still does not hit 50 FPS in medium settings.
This is not just one or two people. Lots of players with all kinds of GPU and CPU setups report similar stuff. If your PC should run it, but you still get stutters, freezes, or low frames, you are not the only one dealing with this mess.
Right now, players hope the developers update the game soon to help with performance. Until then, if you are playing The Forever Winter, it seems like you need patience and maybe a little humor to get through it.
